DMA Settings for DVD Ripping

Mine is set for "DMA if available", "Ultra DMA Mode 2". I want to change it to "Ultra DMA Mode 5". When pulled up thru device manager the spot I wish to change is a gray box and can't be changed in that window.

I can go thru the registry found the one I am interested in, 0001 and 0002 have both a master and slave checksum. If I delete these files and let it redect the DVR will it automatically set to 5 or will I be able to change it?

Thanks, j

Mode 5 is for hard disks -- optical drives is Mode 2 only. Windows automatically sets the fastest DMA mode the drive can support.

You might be correct on this being for the hard drive, but it seems to have an effect when ripping a DVD, it has to do with encoding time (that much I know). Most that are doing this are able to change it to 5 in the box that is gray on mine. I can find my registry and 0001, 0002 have both a master and slave checksum. Which is part of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}. I am not sure if this will decrease my ripping time, but I would like to try it, guess I will later today by copying these files so I can replace them if it doesn't work.
