.NET Framework "ended prematurely"

I'm trying to install .NET framework 1.1 for the first time on my computer, running XP Home Ed., so I can run Norton Ghost 9. I downloaded and ran the .NET Framework 1.1 file off of Microsoft and it seemed to go ok until a message box popped up and said that the setup had "ended prematurely and if it persists to contact Product Service", I read on some other sites to delete the mscoree.dll things in %windows% but that doesnt seem to work (mabye I'm doing it wrong). I dont have either of the SPs installed and would rather not go there if I dont have to. Would reinstalling the OS help? I havent tried that. Any advice on this topic would be appreciated as I have no experience with .NET Framework and only want it to run Norton.

Thanx alot,

Matt

Hi the above program will not work without sp1 or 2 being installed as both of these are security programs.

thanx, I thought that might be the case cause I've tried everything else. What do you mean by "security programs"? why do I need them? anything else I could use as a substitute, SPs are big files?

I have a 20GB hard drive and about 13GB of free space, there's no question, I could fit it if I had to but to me the SP is something I dont need to, and would rather not, install. Incidentally I've tried installing a SP before but I'm running a cracked version of XP and the SP somehow "un-registered" my OS, it had worked perfectly up until that point and has worked prefectly ever since I got rid of the SP so I would rather not go through all that again. Any "work-around" or bypass here would be greatly appreciated. Thanx alot
