MS Word 2000 Runtime Error

Lately, when I try to open my MS Word 2000, I get the following error message: Runtime Error Program C:\Program\MicrosoftOffice\Office\Winword.EXE This application has requested runtime to terminate it in an unusual way; and then it closes. What could be the cause of this sudden error and how do I repair it so that I can continue using my MS Word? Any thoughtful responses are appreciated.
