Yahoo CHAT desperately needs an overhaul!
Guys,
I am a huge fan of Yahoo Mail and love everything about it. However, I can not begin to tell you the mutitudes of people that I have talked to that have had problems with Yahoo Chat, particularly on Windows XP.
To date, issues seem to be:
1.) Private Messaging Windows not sending or receiving PM's
2.) Compatibility issues with XP's firewall on both SP-1 and SP-2
3.) A User Interface, which has not been updated for about 3 years and seems to be working under the assumption of Windows 98/Windows 2000 parameters, where most things worked fine.
4.) A maintience schedule, where you can click on to see when the last maintence was done to the chat system. Guess when the last maintience upgrade was for Yahoo Chat? 2003!
5.) Telling you to upgrade to Microsoft's version of the Java Virtual Machine on their help pages. Microsoft Java VM has long been replaced by Sun Microsystems. There is no reference to this on Yahoo Chat's help pages.
6.) Countless broken links/outdated information. The Java Chat Guide contains NOTHING about Windows XP configurations and for setting up chat, shows what to do for software as old as Netscape 3.0 and 4.0. It gives help for Netscape 6 users (next to nothing) but Netscape is now up to version 8.0.
7.) The 2.0 Chat Guide offers next to nothing for XP users
I have used other chat services and configurations that work just fine with XP. I run SP-2 and keep track of all of the updates for the OS and have up-to-date AV protection (AVG) and Adware/Spyware removal with regular running of Windows Update. I do have very old versions of Office (97) and Quicken (98) but other than some next to nothing incompatabilities with XP, they work just fine. So, I am thinking with all the time that Yahoo spends on their GREAT e-mail program, they really need to update their Chat software!
