Internet Explorer immediately shuts down

My brothers Internet Explorer won't start...When you try to open it, the error message pops up and closes it...He brought his computer with the software already on it and Does Not have a Win XP Sp2 cd...Is there anything he can do to fix his Explorer...I was wondering if he can just unistall the current iexplorer and go to microsoft.com to install the internet explorer 6 sp1 instead?....If he does this...will it mess up his outlook express/computer since it is already Sp2?...or should I just run HJT from his comp and post it?? I was also told to run System File Checker...Can he use my WinXP Sp1 cd to do this, although he has SP2?

First install an alternative browser i.e FireFox. At least then he will be able to browse the net.

Check Event Viewer for any IE related errors and post them in the forum. That way more people will be able to offer helpful suggestions

You could try this fix. It's a general purpose fix for Internet Explorer.
