Smile Unable to install ADOBE , as AOM file is missing ?

Hi,

When I go to www.download.com and try to install PDF reader - adobe , it does not install as it says:-

*******Unable to launch AOM file. Error 1155. It tells me to make an association of this file type AOM in the folder options in the control panel ****.

How will do I that ?

Please help.

Have you tried downloading it from Adobe's web site.

This is a squirrel in the Adobe install routine. To overcome it:
  • Look for the program AdobeDownloadManager.exe -- probably in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ESD
  • Find where the downloaded file exploded the .aom file -- maybe C:\Temp ?
  • Drag the .aom file onto the DownloadManager program.

This should do it...

Good luck,

Craig

1bad,

Re-downloading probably won't help; it's either a glitch or a synchronization issue in the install routine -- somehow writing the association into the registry either gets overlooked or happens too slowly for the "execute" thread to pick it up... I'm kinda surprised Adobe hasn't fixed this yet, though -- it's been around since 6.something ...

This website has a description of what to do. The earlier post os correct in that you have to open the .aom with the adobe download manager...the temp files are stored in the current users temp file directory accesse dby Start | Run | "%TEMP%"

Adobe Reader install fix

http://www.adobe.com/support/salesdocs/1008538.html

This technique works for several adobe products that need to be installed after an installation of say Adobe InDesign which installs the download manager...

Some download manager, kills the download experience for many people.

I think this should work

Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ESD
locate uninst.exe
double click it.
run the downloaded file again...
tell me the result.

Nice, that fixed it for me.

How stupid that the installer would fail on a freshly installed yet fully patched windows XP.

Damn you Adobe and your insidiously needed products that look so pretty!

I prefer FoxitReader. It's free and only a fraction in size.
