Outlook Express Problem

Hello,

I ran into a problem with Outlook Express today and can not figure out what happen. I opened OE to find that several of my emails were missing.

My inbox messages were gone, and several other folder contents were gone. Some folders still had my messages in them. I am not sure what happen to them.

I appreciate any input on this topic.

Last Thursday I had problems opening OE and then when it did eventually open I foind that I lost 6 months worth of mails from the inbox. I am running OE 6.0
6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp_sp2rtm.040803-2158) on XP home Version 5.1. (build 2600.xp.sp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519.Service pack 2).

I'd be very grateful for any help!

I forgot to say that I tried a system restore to the previous day but that didn't work. Anyone go any ideas?

I have not checked into it yet, going to today or tomorrow, but I have found a .dbx (guess that is the file that stores emails for OE) extract program. This program is used to find these files and restores them for OE. Looks like it is a common problem. I found it after researching the problem in the Help and Support on the start up menu. My symptoms mirrored one of the topics with a couple of exceptions. I am going to look for other programs like this, the one I found you have to purchase. I will let you know how it works.

Solved the problem.

You need to find a .dbx extracting program. Some cost money and there were some freeware. I used one called dbxpress (cost $25.00) but I found several others out there. I didn't want to risk the freeware. Anyway the program searches for and extracts these dbx files. You can then recover them and place them into a folder. From there you can read the emails. There is suppose to be a way to put them back into OE but I haven't gotten there yet. I was planning on some fall cleaning anyways.
Hope this helps anyone who runs into this in the future. It sure made me worry.
