Application error

I downloaded a demo version of Fruityloops studio. I have installed and uninstalled 4 times now and I keep getting the same error message:

FL.exe - application error - The instruction at "0x00ef447f" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be written.

I am running a P4 - 512 RAM - 40 gig - Windows XP Home Service pack 2

I also recently cannot update windows because windows tells me that files required to update are missing or no longer registered. I have tried to re-install and re-register with an option given in windows update but it does not fix the problem. I thought that maybe these problems are related.
