I use NOD32 Antivirus http://www.nod32uk.com/home/home.htm , & Kerio Personal Firewall http://www.kerio.co.uk/ because they both work seamlessly & don't cause any conflicts. I recommend Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/ , Spyware Doctor http://www.pctools.com/ & the Beta Microsoft Anti-Spyware (free)to stop spyware & Trojans.

Guys,

I originally had Norton IS, which came preinstalled on my computer. Had problems with it after 6 months, uninstalled it. (Also didn't want to pay the yearly $42 update fee.) I switched to AVG for Anti Virus protection and LOVE it!!! (It's also free!)

I also run Windows XP SP-2's firewall and use Spybot S & D (Was great, but eats Opera browser's cookies and updates have been painfully slow due to recent bandwidth problems on the designer's end.) For added security, I also use AdAware SE, and MS Anti-Spyware Beta.

00, I gotta try that ewido stuff.

Oh yea i forgot to say i also use Prevx http://www.prevx.com/prevxhome.asp (free for home)

Its like a generic antivirus, which is cool, it like blocks/asks when a application starts doing stuff which could be dangerous.

Anti-Virus:
Norton Internet Security 2005

Firewall:
Windows Firewall
Norton Firewall

Anti-Spyware/Adware:
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware SE
CWShredder
HijackThis
Microsoft Antispyware
Spyware Doctor
Spyware Blaster
Bazooka Scanner
(all free/shareware)

I think I'm safe I'll probably check out those others freebies, though.

I go to http://www.majorgeeks.com daily for my Norton AV updates (among other things) because for some reason LiveUpdate never seems to find them.

Hey Shock!

Wow! Your so safe the computer won't let you cross the street alone! LOL!

But what about running the two firewalls at once? Like two AV programs on your computer at once, this can slow down speed and depleate system resources. I just find Norton to do this too much. I wish that new computer companies would include AVG. It is free, it updates daily, it doesn't deplete system resources, and is just as good (better) than Norton/McAfee IMHO.

When I had Norton, I always updated through Live Update because Major Geeks only offered the AV standalone and I had Norton IS, and was not sure if I needed a different update for the whole package. Norton updated sometimes once a week, sometimes every 3 days, and once in had to wait 10 days or more!!

AVG releases updates a minimum of every other day (sometimes twice a day.) and the updates are done in SECONDS especially with a high-speed connection. My question is, why does Norton take so much longer to release updates than AVG? Is it because AVG might find antidotes for lets say 2-3 virusus each day, where as Norton waits for a week where you get a "package" of protection when you update? I like AVG better because the sooner the updates go out, the better and like I said, it's free. Unfortunately, I will be obligated into the 3 months of free Norton when I buy the next computer. But after that, I won't renew. I will uninstall Norton and install AVG.

I don't think the firewalls end up running together in the end because I'm suspecting Norton is responsible for Windows Firewall to be disabling itself.
When it comes to anything but virus definitions I use LiveUpdate. I'm guessing that Norton releases "packages" whereas AVG releases one for every single cure it finds for each virus.
Looks like I'm using AVG to go along with everything else.

Actually it works quite well for me, it's just that I have to update the definitions manually. I've never had any incident of it lagging my computer.

Your right about AVG, I can update every day, but it does flag you to install critical, I use Sygate and had Win Firewall turned on as well, but I it turned off on advice of techi.
