Problem with Direct X

Actually it is not a bug, it seems to be the normal behavior of Direct X but anyway it bothers me.
Here's my problem: whenever I install new drivers for my video card (ATI RADEON 9600 SE), then I reboot as asked and then my video card is not functionnal anymore. I can tell it is the processor that creates the image that appears on my screen because it is of much lower quality and framerate, I only get access to few resolutions and most games don't work. This doesn't really matter if I just formatted cuz I all have to do is install Direct X 9.0 and then the graphic card works properly. However Direct X cannot be reinstalled. So the next time I install ATI drivers, the card stops functionning and I'm stuck with that cuz I can't reinstall Direct X to solve the problem. If this is not entirely clear to you, here's a step-by-step explanation:

1. Empty hard drive.
2. Installation of WinXP
3. Installation of ATI drivers - card still not functionnal
4. Installation of Direct X - card functionnal.
5. Re-installation of ATI drivers - card not functionnal anymore
6. Can't reinstall Direct X !!!
7. *Asks for help

After step 4 (install directx, card functional, why are you installing ATI drivers again when you already installed them at step 3? Installing directX should not require re-install of display driver.

You said, "the next time I install ATI drivers" which indicates to me you're upgrading the drivers every time new drivers are released by ATI.

I recommend to my customers that as long as things are working to their satisfaction, don't update drivers...or anything else other than Windows, antivirus and antispyware software.
