Question Delete SP 2 or not?

I am not having any problems as I know of, but I do have a question about the service pack2. My OS is Windows XP Home edition, 1.80 gh Intel Celon processor, 60 gb HD, McAfee virus, service pack 2. Some say that service pack 2 is not really good for your computer. So do you think that I should delete it or not? Or can it be deleted?

Is everything working ok? If so, I would leave sp2 alone.

Some say the sky is falling too ........

Basically SP2 is an integral part of windows XP security, anyone who advises the removal of it does not understand its function.

To paraphrase s7p9a2m4 ...... if it aint broke don't fix it.

Thanks, I will leave it alone. I just didn't know if it was better to delete it. Thought it may cause some problem or something. I don't know a lot about the SP 2 or computers either.

NO NO NO!!!! Do not delete SP-2!!! You could run into MAJOR problems if you do.

Windows XP SP-2 is a large OS overhaul and enhancement designed to improve the security of your Windows OS with many built-in and integrated features. Windows XP SP-2 is now a standard on all preshipped Windows XP systems. SP-2 works in conjunction with Windows Update to allow you the user greater protection.

There were MANY concerns and apprehensions when SP-2 was released, as it took MS awhile to get the bugs out. You should update all of your Syware removal, Adware removal, Anti-virus software and then run scans BEFORE you install SP-2. Back up any data that you can't live without to a backup drive, or CD ROM, or even old floppy disks and create a system restore point BEFORE installing SP-2. You can download it from Windows Update. If you have a dial up connection or just want a back up disk, you can get a free one from Microsoft. GET THE CD-ROM IF YOU HAVE DIAL UP AND ARE AN XP SP-1 USER. I have DSL and it took me about 50 minutes to get the download, 10 minutes for the updates to configure and that was about it. I am guessing a broadband connection may take about 10 minutes. But the bottom line is, you need this update XP users. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO THE ABOVE PREREQUISITS FIRST BEFORE INSTALLING.

Also, RUN WINDOWS UPDATE AFTER INSTALLING SP-2. (Your CD-ROM version of SP-2 may be months to years out of date.) You can select the express install and get the updates your computer needs. Run Windows Update at least monthly. You can also turn on Automatic Update and have the computer retrieve Windows Updates for you at a time that you specify. and also make sure to update your AV definitions at least weekly.
