Firefox won't connect to the Internet
I just downloaded Firefox 1.0.7 and installed it. Yet when I try to connect to the net, all I get is the hourglass, what am I missing here.? I have tried several different websites, and yes I am still connected to the net. Thanks.

Have you tried renewing your IP Address? You might also try rebooting and then trying it.

Firefox won't connect to the Internet
I am on a dial-up connection with static addresses. I have done a reboot, and I am not sure how renewing my IP address will change things.? I still have no luck with Firefox connecting. IE works fine. Maybe there is something I should be doing in Firefox Options.??

Try going into the tools button\options\general\connections settings. I'm not familiar with dial-up connection with firefox but it does have several options listed.

Ok, I did that my choices are "Direct connection, Auto-detect, manual proxy, and Auto config. proxy. The first two are self explanitory. The others I am not sure what to do with them.

There's always a possibility that something went wrong during the installation. You might try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it.
As to my suggestion of renewing your IP address. Sometimes when I go to open firefox it opens but nothing happens but that hour glass. Closing it and renewing my IP address fixes the problem. Could be my system or firefox, don't know.

I am still not clear as to what you mean by "renewing my IP address".
Colud you please explain this to me, in more detail.

To renew my IP address I click start\run type winipcfg then ok. this brings up my IP configuration. I'm on a win98SE and I'm not sure about other system but I'm pretty sure this method doesn't work on XP. Although clicking on find files and folders and searching for IP configuration should find it.
Are you running a firewall or rueter? Did you have firefox set to auto-detect when you followed the instructions at
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mozilla_Su..._:_Autoconnect
What anti-virus program are you using?
You might look to see if you are running any of the mentioned at this site.
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=258042
As I said, I don't have dial-up but they are saying firefox should be set up the same as IE.

to release / renew on windows xp, go to start, run, then type in cmd and hit enter.
in command prompt -- type in ipconfig /release
wait ten seconds, now on the next line, type in ipconfig /renew
(if /renew doesnt work, type in /renew_all)

No change here, thanks though. I was also asking on the Mozilla forum and they are suggesting that it might be Norton Firewall, that is the problem. I have tried to get Firefox into Norton's accepted programs, yet each time I try to enter it, all I get is the hourglass. Is this something that I have to do as an Administrator.?

Norton probably is the problem, (usually is).
It's listed on the site that I gave the URL for
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=258042
If you look under norton Internet Security if gives a this URL
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...337&highlight=
with step by step instructions with screen shots.

NIS I am thinking is part of the problem, so secure that I can't access anything. I also tried using IE to download Flash 8.0 as was required by one of the websites I was looking at, and that didn't work either.
I must say that I am becoming somewhat frustrated by all this. Again thanks for your time.
