Up Dates from Windows

Hi everybody ,

I had to reinstore Windows ,which I did over the phone with DELL
.I was just checking update's and critical update recommend WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 1 (EXPRESS) .
I read in the past NOT to download this component as it slows the PC down and not important .
Any opinion please is welcome .
thanks ,

SP1 seems to be a little like Russian Roulette. Some have trouble with it some do not. On a fresh install it should be no problem. I installed it in my home XP (which was not fresh) and it worked fine.

Here's Microsoft's argument why Service Packs are better than patches:

Here are some issues and fixes that have come up since SP1 was released. Not all of them are the result of installing SP1.

I usually download and install anything Microsoft tells me to (there have been exceptions, but not many).
