"locate link browser" message after uninstalling Fireforx

Since uninstalling Firefox whenver I click on a weblink from an email in Outlook (or from Yahoo Messenger) I get "locate link browser" box coming up. I have tried to solution on the Microsoft website and it does not work. For some reason my system is not exactly as the solution steps go but when I get to the "remove DDE check box' I do remove it but when I go back it is checked again. Also stage 6 doesnt apply, there is no option to chose close two times.

Any other solutions?

RESOLUTION (I tried this and it didnt work)To resolve this problem, follow these steps to clear the Use DDE check box: 1. Double-click My Computer.
2. On the View menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the File Types tab, click URL:MailTo Protocol in the Registered File Types list, and then click Edit.
4. In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Edit.
5. Click to remove the Use DDE check box, and then click OK.
6. Click Close two times.

Have you checked the 'Open With' settings for files of type HTM/HTML so that they are set to open with Internet Explorer? It may be that HTML files are currently not set to open with anything. A quick way of checking is search for a local HTML file and see what icon it has. If it doesn't have the blue 'e' icon (for Internet Explorer), that's why web-links can't open -- they aren't associated with your web-browser, or they may still be associated with Firefox which your system can no longer find since you uninstalled it.

Locate Link Browser Message

Hi Nickmon, I tried the same remedy as you did with the same lack of success. The box that appears after the message is looking for an"executable file" so I gave it one. I went to Internet Explorer, clicked on it and the link worked. I haven't seen the "locate browser" message since.

Another Possible Solution...

This worked for me...In IE go to tools>internet options>programs...under the 'Default web browser' heading click the button that says 'Make Default' and bingo! You can click on a link contained in an Outlook email and IE will go there once again with no "Locate link browser" window popping up. It worked for me at least...Hey! this is my very first contribution to something like this. Hope it's helpful to someone.

Thanks, Smoothie

Hello, Smoothie:

I joined about an hour ago just to be able to thank you for that tip about making sure that IE was my default browser in order to eliminate the Locate Link Browser problem. It worked perfectly.

I had previously tried five or six different solutions, including reinstalling Office 2003, repeatedly, none of which worked.

Best regards,
