Unhappy IEXPLORE.EXE - Aplplication Error

I am running Windows 2000. While on a web site the other night, I noticed the following box: IEXPLORER.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to termintate the application.

Since then, I have attempted to uninstall Internet Explorer 6 about six times. When I use a lower version of Internet Explorer, I can access things.

I went to microsoft after installing the lower version and attempted to obtain updates. It sent me to the Service Pack for Internet Explorer 6. Once again, it was installed and the same message box still appears.

I have run EZ trust and AV since then. I found one virus and fixed it. However, the same thing is still present. Please, help. My computer friends have left me out in the cold.

Answer to your question

Not sure why this works, but many people have been having this problem recenly... must be a new peice of spyware or something that causes this damage..

Now please copy the following text in the code box to Notepad. Make sure there is no empty line above REGEDIT4. In Notepad go to File > Save As. Name it Fix.reg, in the drop down box at the bottom choose "All Files", and save it on your desktop. Then double click on Fix.reg and let it merge with the registry..

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RPCKDM]

In doubt, switch to a different program instead.

I suggest Mozilla. Not only is it almost guaranteed to work, but it has a PLETHORA of useful and nifty functions.

Thanks for you reply

Thanks. I have already downloaded Firefox; however, this application error disallows me getting into Internet Explorer 6. Hence, I cannot get the critical updates from Microsoft. I would use Firefox on an exclusive basis if I could copy and paste images correctly and get the aforementioned updates. Another person responded with a solution I am going to try. If this does not work, I will reinstall Windows 2000. Again, thanks for responding.

You could always use something like Maxthon as your browser to download updates ensnared3...

However, i think you should get IE up and running properly if possible. Try running the system file checker:
Type sfc /scannow in to the 'Run' box (note the space after sfc). This will launch the system file checker. It will scan your system and try to fix any damaged/corrupted files. You might be asked to insert your Windows disk at some point
