Exclamation Deskjet 5550 Setup file won't start

I have an HP Deskjet 5550 printer for my computer. I downloaded the software from numorous websites and each time I click on the setup.exe file the setup does not come up, nothing happens at all. I tried putting the files on a floppy and trying to install the computer from setup/printers/add printer but the files won't fit on it and I don't have any software to put it on a CD, so does anyone have any idea why the setup file won't start up, and if not how can I get the software for it installed because I really need this printer installed for school. Any replies will be very much appreciated.

check that your Windows Installer service is
running before using a setup file.

Start/ Run/ services.msc

Select Windows Installer and ensure that it is Started,,
If it isn't, double click on it and press Start ,,,,it should
be set to Manual or Automatic,,, not 'Disabled.

Thanks, but my copmuter can't find services.msc

One thing I forgot to mention is that I'm on Windows ME, so that probably is why that file isn't on here.

windows ME ..ok ever thought of going to win 2k pro or xp..ME was abit of a hash when ms released it ,,sort of a rush job i heard. never used it myself i went from win 2000 pro to xp . i guess in time you might want to upgrade. try start/ run/ msconfig and look at services running.
