Smile Pioneer Rd106 - Will Not Format

I have a Pioneer RD106 CD/DVD drive. I am unable to format CD RW's or DVD RW's for the purpose of drag-and-drop to disc. The drive will allow me to play CD's and DVD's. It will allow me to burn to the CD/DVD provided the disc was formatted on another drive. I have used Nero and Roxio. When I start the full format, after about 15 seconds, the message, "Format operation on drive E:\ failed: the drive has reported a problem with the media". I have used TDK, Sony, Maxel and Phillips media. DMA/Ultra DMA is enabled.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions about how to solve the problem.

Also, can someone recommend the best software for DVD formatting.

Thanks.

Hi, The only thing I can think of at the moment is that maybe you are trying to use WINDOZE's formater. Use ROXIO/ADAPTEC's or whatever burner you are using. Most any burner software including XP (I Think) will offer to format a disk, even a CD-R if you stick a CDR/RW into the burner while the program is running. Hope this helps a little, Jim
