Fuzzy background picture

Hi I know this is a really basic question but Im new to computers - whenever I save an image from the internet to use as my background, the image always appears fuzzy when on 'stretch' mode.

I use a Philips 17" Brilliance monitor with Windows XP Professional. Images that I download using a digital camera dont appear fuzzy when saved as my background theme. The resolution I use is 1024 x 768.

Any ideas?

Use the "centered" option.

"Stretching" is basically trying to blowup a small picture and the quality suffers.

Thanks for your help. Using the centre option gives a clear image but only appears as a small central picture on the desktop, not really as a background,

When the picture turns into the size of a postage stamp when you use the "Center" mode, that means the picture was tiny to start with and not of good enough quality to "blow up" to desktop background size. Other than editing with a powerful graphics program (like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro), the results of which are not always satisfactory, there's nothing you can do.
