How to play MDF files?

So my friend sent me a zipped file with a 600mb MDF file with 1kb MDS File. He told me to use alchohol 100% to mount it, but it does not work. I tried VLC video player but does not play. Help?

Use Magic ISO to convert it to BIN and ISO file.

Umm i tried but it says its not a cd image.. the file is a vcd karaoke thing.
