Hitman 2 not working

I recently bought the MAD edition of hitman 2 and after installing, it doesn't work. It comes up with the "please insert the correct cd-rom" even though the correct one is in.

I've tried both my dvd rom and dvd rw drives withough success.

I tried the update patch to v 1.01 (which is supposed to increase cdrom support- which is unusual for games being incompatible with cdroms in the first place, especially if they can install using them) with no difference in result.

I even tried "no cd" game cracks so I could bypass the cd rom, if that was the source of the problem. In this case the game loads with what appears to be dodgy graphics, as if the gfx card is struggling with the game, and then just before it gets to the main menu, it crashes and goes back to windows.

I have a nvidia mx400 gfx card (128mb) and 512mb ram, Athlon xp 3000 and direct x 9.1 and even tried the supplied dx8.1. There's apparently no incompatability issues with tht graphics card- which i updated the drivers- according to the back of the package but the way the graphics appear in the cracked start of the game make me believe otherwise.

Now I'm just stuck and wonder if any of you have any ideas about the cause/ solution to this problem. Its just annoying since I have hitman 1 and 3 and I have played a downloaded copy of hitman 2 on my computer before.
