Burning to DVD

I have several movie files in .avi, .mpg, and vob. Recently I acquired a copy of Nero Start Smart.

Will somebody please, please, please explain to me how to burn a dvd that is viewable on my dvd player. If I´m lucky and that means only once in a great while, I can burn a data disc to DVD; and something viewable only on my computer. But there´s a lot of stuff taking up space, I´d like to move to a disc.

I've been doing quite a bit of this lately. It can be a frustrating task.

Nero can burn some video formats directly to dvd if you have the appropriate plugins which cost. WinAvi is a popular program.

I'm not going to comment further as this is a very complex topic with all the software out there. Talk to the pros. Here are a couple of links.

Don't know about Nero, but Roxio can convert certain files to DVD format. Basically you need to convert most video formats to i believe its MPEG-2 format but dont quote me on it, and then use the Software to create the Video DVD. As opposed to a DATA DVD.

Unfortunatley its not as easy as it sounds. conversions can be difficult, and once converted they will use up more space than they did in their original format.
Example: a DVD will hold about 25 half hour video clips in AVI format or some other compressed format in which they would be around 80-150GB in size. However once they are converted to DVD format you will be lucky if you get more than 5 or 6 into the DVD to be playable in a home DVD player.

Hope this helps .

Try the old freeware version of DivxToDVD:

http://fastdownload.softonic.de/ourf...up_0.52.99.exe

Converts most formats and authors to DVD, no menu. (Authoring means putting MPEG2 into the proper structure for a settop to play.) Fairly reliable, even for dodgy downloaded video. Options almost non-existant, but for novices that may be a good thing. For better, but more complicated methods, go to videohelp as advised. Good luck.

[EDIT] You can put more than one file in the list to put on a single disc, but try to keep total running time under 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
