MSN Messager (Forced upgrade) abatement?
I like using MSN Messager 3.5 and dislike the newer versions and all the bloat and garbage that comes with it. until now, all you got was a weekly nagscreen telling you to upgrade. However now they are saying that they are forcing an upgrade upon us due to "security" reasons... the newest versions are the least secure... but really they just want everyone to have the bloated ad spam crasy newest version. Is there a way I can hack this version so that it reports the latest version when I log in so it still allows me to login?
last note, please no noob replys saying "how great" their new version is. post that in another thread, this is specifically on hacking old versions to trick the server into thinking its the newest and therefore operate normally.

If "nop" is not the answer you are looking for then here it comes,,,, First of all you make it sound like you can hack into a compiled exe file if you have the tools,,, it doesn't work that way, software like MSN messenger does not run only on one exe file plus version stamp can't be change unless you have the source code and recompile the EXE file. To top it all off version 3.5 does not recognize the malicious codes that could be transfered through the messenger, that's why you need /HAVE TO upgrade.
We all know Advertising seem to be a culture in 21 century and you can't get away from it but if you want to stay away from it all then you better get a cabin in north pole.
cheers

I'll make a stupid comment. You asked for help & snowmonkey did answer you. I think there is a better way to respond to a person who is trying to help besides calling them stupid. You found an answer to your question. I would think a reasonable person could have posted what they have found to help others not slam the person who initally tried to help them. I have my opinion as to what kind of person has the. I think I will keep the rest of my response & opinion to my self. I hope you can fill in the blanks.

One thing I have always admired about this forum is the polite and professional manner in which members conduct themselves.
I hope that cx_Gx would reconsider his post and do the right thing and edit it. Thankyou.

i like to think of forums as think-tanks, or a good soundingboard for problems, no one person's opinion should be considered stupid for any reason, you can learn from everyone. sometimes i add to a post for things that might have been left out, or just my personal idea of a easier way. sometimes the information is a little hard to understand the full question, but people, and myself try to post anyway, in hopes if we are close to the right answer more info will be provided. i enjoy reading other peoples answers, sometimes learn a trick or two. and if someone, like snowmonkey post to your reply, if you dont like their answer, just ignore it, dont be a smart A$$ about it. i read here alot, and snowmonkey seems to be very sharp on computers, just because he didnt give you the answer you wanted to hear didnt mean his post was wrong. it is impossible to know all the workarounds, hacks, and fixes for everything. and as far as i know, no one gets paid for doing this, so you are lucky to get a reply at all.

It's not their opinion, its the fact that so many newbies post information which is false because they do not know the facts before they post. They act like they know for sure but they don't. You can say you don't know but nobody likes a damn lier.

MSN MESSENGER
I agree with Known Criminal and the others.Snowmonkey was good enough to answer at all and all that was neccessary for you to do was to POLITELY thank him for his SUGGESTED fix (which is what they are as they do not always work the same on different pc,s).There is no justification at all in insulting anyone tryinng to help,no one is guaranteeing a fix or workaround. To notify snowmonkey you had found a fix would have been sufficient.Incidentally speaking I could not help but notice you have only had 17 posts in almost 12 months-DO YOU CONTRIBUTE OR JUST PICK OTHER DECENT PEOPLE,S BRAINS.Get a life please,a little courtesy never goes amiss.PC FANATIC.

First of all, it's not an opinion, it's a fact. And he was wrong, plain and simple. Just like a thousand other people on these forums they try to answer someone's question without having sufficent knowledge on the answer and jumping to conclusions. No need to defend noobletism.

First of all, it's not professional to answer a question with a false answer, protraying it as fact. Second of all, don't expect someone to be totally polite to someone acting like a bonehead. My answer was short, sweet and to the point. Obviously hit home because you all have such strong emotions over it. And third, no, I'm not going to edit my post because you think it's the right thing.
If you want to teach stuff you don't know for fact and talk all warm and fuzzy and get ousted if your opinion doesn't concur with others than go back to church you big babies.

With the attitude you are displaying I do not know why you are bothering with this forum or indeed any forum,If you know so much why do you bother?I will say this one more time only as I do not wish to waste time on such a person as you-snowmonkey tried to help and right or wrong with his suggestion he did try and you should appreciate that fact.It is sufficient to thank him for his help not insult him because he was incorrect as no one can know it all.I did not suggest you edit your post to him and quite frankly I think you have gone too far to do that.Being rude to people will not get you very far whereas showing common courtesy will go a long way. This is my last comment on this topic as I did not join this forum to be subject to your irresponsible behaviour.pc fanatic.

pcfanatic2: Yet another person who fails to read and comprehend the entire thread before posting something someone else already posted of whom got owned and which means that yours is now retroactively owned for just being plain stupid. If you don't like my posts then do yourself a favor by not becoming the laughing stock of the half-way intelligent world and just ignore them.

A simple statement of what you are talking about would suffice.

Fanatic, it seems like the one, SnowMonkey, which all this got started over, is the only one that has seemed to grow some sense. He hasn't posted another stupid reply. The rest of you post stupid stuff or contradictory stuff just making yourself look stupider. Do yourself a favor and just quit while you can still dig your way out.
