Computer crash during install.

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section, as it was a game I was installing.

I was installing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on my laptop. 1/3 of the way through installation, my computer crashed. This was very odd, because I just got it repaired (for the third time...). I turned the system back on, went to the add/remove programs window, and tried to find the game to uninstall it, but it wasn't on the list. I removed the CD from the tray, then put it back in. The 'install game' button was replaced by the 'play game' button. I knew the computer crashed had messed it up. Next step: went to the game's folder, deleted it. You're probably thinking right now "Idiot!". I thought it would work. (Could somebody explain to me why I should/shouldn't have done that, in a general sense?)
I removed the CD/ stuck it back in, and the 'play game' button was still there. That's when I noticed an 'uninstall' button. Oops. Pressing 'play game' does nothing (but keeps the game running. I can tell, because it's in my ctrl+alt+del system tray). Closing that does nothing special. When I hit 'uninstall' I get a popup.

When you deleted the folder did it go into the recycle bin, if so just restore it from there. Then try reinstalling or uninstalling.

I'm not much with XP but might leave the folder deleted and do a system restore (?), should remove the registry entries for the game (?). Wait for others to replay if the above is a good idea or not.

[why I should/shouldn't have done that, in a general sense?] that will not remove the 100's of registry entries made by the install.
