Bypass InstallShield to manually install?

I'm having some trouble with my 4 month old $3,000.00 Dell XPS. Anyway, I can't seem to install a new game, Quake 4, on my computer. It just gets stuck on the second CD and doesn't do anything. There's not error message, it just doesn't do anything.

Anyway, this is my spring break and I'm eager to hurry up and play the game. Is there any way I can manually install the game by exploring the CD's contents and simply dragging the files over thereby copying them manually? Will that essentially be the same thing as installing it? Will I be able to play it after that?
