Media Player
Hi,
Just wondering if any of the software aficionados here know of some alternatives to Windows Media Player 10. I've been using Microsoft's program for the better part of two years, and I've been pretty happy with it, but I think it's time for me to address it's faults and try something new.
I use it primarily as a media player for audio, as I'm not a huge fan of it's video capabilities, and I've been using Media Player Classic for video with no problems whatsoever yet. The media is mostly in MP3 format with meticulously organized ID3 tags, so as to organize my 700+ CD collection into something manageable. That has always been my biggest problem with iTunes and Winamp, how there is little to no organizational capabilities (ie: The "Album Artist" tag). However, the library data in Media Player seems very easily swayed by automations that I don't entirely trust. For example, I occasionally find things disappearing, or not retaining their changes in the library.
As well, I'm not a big fan of the way the album art system is handled. It seems to support a mish-mash of images (some of which are very inaccurate) from Microsoft's CD image catalogue. I'd almost prefer to scan my CDs or create my own images for the album art displayed in the "Now Playing" Window, but I've been met with difficulty making those changes permanent with the files. I prefer to deal with programs that are standalone on my computer and don't look like one big pop-up ad (ie: "Buy This CD from Napster").
I am a huge fan of the way WMP10 handles custom playlists. Definitely a plus for parties. Integrated burning has been one of my favourite things about the program, be it Data or Audio CDs.
The "Search" feature has been a bit slow, but you can't have everything now, can you?
If there's any recommendations for programs that will help me organize a little better, but have similar features, I'd love to hear a rundown of what to look for, thanks.
