Outlook 2003 Issues,any help welcome!

Hello to all
I have Windows XP OS & just upgraded to Basic Office 2003.When I am finished adding or editing information in the notes section of Contacts in Outlook, I Save & Close the Contact.When I re-open that Contact all the new information just typed in is gone.Major problem for me,as I am in sales and edit constantly to keep up with my clients needs.
Outlook always had a Favorites toollbar but none in Outlook 2003.
I have yet been able to add one to it.Any workarounds or experience resolving these issues is greatly appreciated.
