Using my software on two computers?

I have a Dell desktop I bought 15 months ago. It came pre-loaded with Norton Antivirus and Office 2003 Basic. If I purchase a new Dell laptop, can I use this software I've already bought for the desktop on the new laptop? I have the cd's in sealed packaging that came with the desktop. Or, can I copy the programs from my desktop to a new laptop? If I can, I'll then ask how! (Clueless, here)

I'm operating Windows XP, and want to use the Office Basic 2003 software that I had purchased with a Dell Dimension, on a new Dell Laptop. I've been told that the software can only be used on the computer for which it was issued and pre-installed. Dell said its a violation of the licensing agreement to use it on any other computer. Supposedly, the software is somehow rigged to work only on the computer it was preloaded on. That's what I've been told, and just don't know. ???

Hi fishing@union-t,

Some software could be installed on more then one computer but in most cases (these days) you have to activate the software such as Norton......therefore, you can't install the one from the older laptop on to the new one, you will need to purchase a new license for new laptop. Hope that clears it out for you.

Cheers

Thanks Snowmonkey. That's what I was afraid of, but thought there may be a way to use it twice.

I don't have the new laptop yet. I was trying to figure out whether or not to order Office and Norton pre-installed on the new notebook. Sounds as if I should order it plain, and give it a try first.
