Windows Delayed Write Fail on ATA 133 Host adaptor (adapter)
System comprises of :
A755-a2 Mobo AMD 3200+
1gbyte DDR 400 mem
ATI 9800Pro
Win XP Prof SP2
C-Drive 80Gbyte Maxtor
D-Drive 200Gbyte Maxtor
Several USB drives (USB2.0 mobo) varying from 120gbyte 230gbyte all
Maxtor.
Purchased some many months ago Ultra ATA 133 Adaptor - can be used for Raid, but it is configured (by removing a link) for just IDE only. Plugs into PCI slot, comes with driver Floppy, when when loaded, and system reset, seems to run the drive ok. Purchased 320gbyte drive which was formatted on a different machine (Pen4 job) as the AMD machine was busy doing lots of video compiling (used as video editing/compiling machine). After the format off the Pen4 machine (done direct off IDE mobo interface), was connected to the AMD machine Mobo IDE interface in place of drive -D, and all was fine. I inserted the 320 gbyte drive into a CADDY so that it could be plugged into (not hotwapped) the caddy, so that it could be tested out. Xfer a coulple of files (no larger than about 60kbytes) without any problem. Did a test to move 85gbyte video, and it failed miserably with "Write Delay Failed " followed by the uses messages.
Now reason for the caddy is that I have spare 80gbyte that I want to setup with Linux, so that I have dual operating system but on two drives. Anyhow I continue on :::
Tried Microsoft re the above error, did everything they suggested, including regsitry twiddle, but did not work, visited large numberof forums, but noone has reported that I can see this problem related to ATA 133 HOST ADATPOR. Finally, tried to contact Ultraproducs.com, with no luck. The chip used is a silocon image , and the board is referred to as an SI0680. So, I downloaded their latest binary (dated 12/06) and their latest driver, blew the binary, loaded the driver, reset the PC, guess what, the error is even worse ???, I can roll back the driver, but cannot roll back the binary, so, im going to download the old binary later and blow it back to its original settings.
Can anyone assist on this at all - it would be greatly appreciated.
