IE7 Acrobat Reader dll

Hi,

IE7 will not open PDFs on my notebook computer: P4, WinXP Pro (SP2), 1GB RAM. I have Acrobat Reader 8 on the computer. AcReader works fine with Firefox 2 and resident PDFs.

It's interesting... In IE7, when I go to Tools, Internet Options,
Programs, Manage add ons, Manage add ons will not open. So, I cannot
check to see that Acrobat Reader is on that list. This is true for
my notebook computer but not for my desktop computer. I wonder how I
can make sure that the appropriate dll is being read by IE7 in the
notebook.

Perhaps, there is a registry setting that should be changed in order
to allow Managae add ons to function correctly.

Can you help me with this part of the problem?

Thanks.

More likely an install problem with IE7 as the add-on manager won't open. My advice is to uninstall IE7 through Add/Remove Programs (it's listed as "Windows Internet Explorer" now, not Microsoft Internet Explorer). Then re-install, preferably from a fresh download.

Thanks for your advice. I've deleted and re-installed IE7. Problem seems to be related to the following message I receive when I attempt to download PDFs:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I have full administrator permissions.

In the title bar of this dialog box is the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\(account name)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ATUNA1IJ\(file name).pdf

In Windows Explorer, I find no sub-folders in Temporary Internet Files for this Windows user account. The other Windows User Account on this computer does show a series of folders in the Read Only folder Content.IE5, including ATUNA1IJ.

I think there are missing folders for one of my Windows User Accounts. Do you know how to repair this problem?

Thank you again.

I left out one thing...

The sub-folder Content.IE5 is a Read Only folder with a muted icon. No right-click, New function is available.
