Media players play large movies choppily.

So I've got a problem. I'm trying to watch a movie, with a pretty large screen resolution(I have no idea exactly how much it is - Which is part of the problem.). Whenever I try to play it, every media player except VLC will freeze up and start using 99% CPU, even when I shut it off, so I have to do it manually via Task Manager. Now, VLC will open the file, and play it, but it's all choppy. Sound is no problem, but the video plays horribly.

WMP, MPC, Zoom, DivX, Winamp and PowerDVD all freeze up when I open it. WMP can't even identify it well, there's not even a screen resolution included in the file's details. Now, I know the problem isn't the file itself, because I've had the same problem with other files. 704x396(I dunno how much higher I can go exactly, though) screen size and smaller do work, though.

I've also had the green washout problem with WMP, I'm not sure if this is related, but it started before this problem - I didn't pay it much mind, though, since I usually used MPC or VLC anyways.

So...Any help?

Sounds like a lack of resources.

What's the spec of your computer?

Media PLayer 11 uses all my CPU

I have a fairly decent PC and I can play avi and other windows media files with no problems on other media players, but when I use windows media player or media centre the CPU goes up to 100 in a few seconds and everything freezes. can anyone help?

If you know that such files play well on other players, then you know that the problem lies not with the file, but with the player.

Is there an update available? If not, I suggest uninstalling the POS and starting over with it.

Though I rarely use Media player on this computer.

IMHO GOM Player is much better, free and even plays damaged / incomplete media files.

--------------

I agree, many media files are themselves corrupt, and will do exactly as you say, freeze the com, become blocky or jump around.

If you aren't internet accessible, then yes updating will be a problem, as it's the only really practical way of making sure you're up to date with the latest (marginally less bug free) stuff.

As i said, http://www.gomplayer.com/whatisgom.html is a great, simple to use, flexible and entirely free program which will play all your media files.
