System constantly reading hard drive!

Hi there,

Was wondering why my system is constantly reading my hard drive? It has been doing this for a couple of weeks now after I had replaced a CPU fan and also got a new hard drive and DVD-ROM. Even with the old hard drive disconnected, there is this constant reading of my hard drive and I have also noticed that my system just didn't want to shut down last night. The light on the front of my computer is constantly flashing even when the computer is idle.

Could some one please help me and please speak in simple laymen's terms as I'm far from being technically literate. In other words, please walk me through this.

Many thanks for any help and I sure would appreciate notification to my question.

Pat

Is the new hard drive the boot drive or a slave mate? If you reattach the old drive as the boot drive does the problem disappear? Is the new drive ok when installed as a slave?

Try removing all drives, then reattaching them one by one, rebooting and find out when the problem starts.
