You have to be very careful with Packard Bell Pcs. If you use a recovery disk that is not really needed for this laptop, you need to go through a thing called a Tattoo.
It's basically a recovery, but you tell your laptop / pc what to install during the recovery (But you need a PB Recovery disk to do so)
But if you just want a standard Windows XP with no features of Packard Bell, then you're cool with that.
Go to
http://www.packardbell.com
Click on "Support" and enter your Serial Number (Found under the laptop or where the battery is located)
This should then show you, your downloads available for your laptop.
