MS Office problems

Recently whenever I try to open my MS office app's Windows try to install them, fails and gives me "Error 1706", the only way I can open them is if I go to "C:\ program files\microsoft office\office 10" folder
Anyone got any ideas???
I am currently running XP and have only installed Hearts of iron game prior to problem occuring.
AV software being used "Spyware detector" and "Etrust"
