Ad-Aware SE/Spybotsd152

This morning I wanted to run Ad-Aware SE and Spybot.

When I click on updates for AD-Aware SE, no update list was produced, which I thought was strange. I did some searches on it, and it seems like the product was dis-continued, but I was not certain which one took it's place.

Is it Ad Aware 2007, and if so, how is it? Do I just download it, and it will take care of the SE version that I qlready have installed?

When I click on updates for Spybot, it downloaded a whole new version: Spybotsd152. This one worked pretty much the same as the old one.

Spybotsd152 pops up a registry window once in a while saying that a registry entry has been updated for a given program, and would I like to continue updating it.

Is th is ok, and is there anything else about new spybot to know about?

Thanks.
NYF.

Question

You can get Ad Aware 2007 from the link below:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

SE is the old version, uninstall it.

Why do you have both Spybot and Ad Aware? Just use one of them.

I'd recommend Ad Aware.

I've always heard people say that they use both of them.

How can I get rid of the registry messages that the new spybot gives? Does the regstry reall change that often?

Spybot also put an installation icon on my desktop.

ok, I'll install Ad-Aware 2007.

Thanks.

Personally I use both because, although there may be some overlap, the two programs have different databases of malware they fix. What one misses the other may find.

Also Spybot has real time protection in the form of TeaTimer.

Just my opinion, of course, and I have no doubt other folk will have other views.

ad aware

Hi
Here is the sight to go get the updated manuelly just add .old to the file defs file in the folder where you keep the ad ware program at. Download the new file and it will ask where you want to unzip the file say the file where you main program is at. then restart ad ware and the update will be there. or when you download it have it write over the old file. because the names are always the same. defs.ref. here is the sight look on the right side of the page and download the ad aware se file http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/
I hope this all helps
have a great day dan

Spybot is free. Adaware is trialware. Spybot is cool. Adaware is ......
It is teatimer that throws up the windows. A small sacrifice for the superb control and early warning this thing provides. If you don't want them, don't activate teatimer, but lose the background protection.
Depends on how paranoid/control freak/can't be bothered/ you are.
