Photoshop CS3 Valid Retail Copy?

Hi,
I just purchased Photoshop CS3 on ebay. It arrived in a shrinkwrap package with documentation in the original package, with what appears to be a genuine Adobe CD. The back of the CD case has a serial number. It installed and works correctly. I'm wondering what the deal is because it never asked for the serial number nor asked for activation. There is no Option to Activate it (or deactivate it.) No 30 day nag warnings.
I had just uninstalled the trial version that I had attempted to activate with a serial number from a previously purchased version that turned out to be bogus (invalid serial number.)
What type of software is this and could it possibly be a valid licensed copy.

you can simply call Adobe and ask them to verify the serial number for you and if that happens to be a fake number then you can call eBay and ask for you money back.....they are very serious about this kind of $hit.
