USB ports not working

None of my USB ports are working. I plug in, say, a flash drive and it comes up with USB device not recognized. Why is it not working. I'm not that much of a computer person so simple language would be appreciated! I run WindowsXP and the motherboard is ASRock.

unhook all usb devices, wouldn't hurt to visually inspect the ports for damage. Being you have a AsRock I am assuming this is a custom built PC and the case maybe low-end? If the case's frontside usb are connected i have seen several with the contact strips pushed together because the port is coming apart.
If it all looks ok with nothing else plugged in a usb, insert the flash drive. If it still doesnt pick up try unhooking the frontside ports.
If you still have the issue go to the device manager and uninstall the enhanced usb controllers reboot and try again after the device reinstalls. If you get the usb ports to work again, as you are connecting each item back, go one at a time to check and see which device caused the port to hang-up.

I've already uninstalled the USB controllers several times and rebooted. When I plug the flash drive in it says that the device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

What other usb devices do you have and do they all have a issue? Could be the flash drive is faulty or possibly it has a corrupted file system.

I have tried three different USB flash drives and my webcam and nothing is working. All I want it for is to use the webcam.

It's still not working. Is there any other way I can get it to work? All I want is to use my webcam!
