ATI Radeon 9000 Pro install problem

I had to reinstall ATI 9000 Pro Graphics program. When attempting to use some progams, as Microsoft Flight Simulator, I get message unable to use Hardware Accleration. I downloaded the latest drivers, and when attempting to load them I get the message"no ATI Driver installed" I attemted to load the driver drom the CD installation disk to no avail. HELP, how do I get a driver installed?? I did go to device manager and tried many attempts with no luck...where am I going astray??

Try removing your Radeon card in device manager, uninstal the existing drivers and ATI software and reboot.
Windows will 'detect new hardware'
When it does, the drivers should install fine.
