Scandisk in XP

i have just purchased new pc with Xp installed and would like to do discscan but can not find how to do. Under windows 95/98 it could be done. How do i do it on XP.

Go to 'my computer' and right click on your drive > properties > tools > error checking > check both boxes > restart. Same as scandisk but is called chkdsk.

Thanks for that tried it and it worked. however it took over 50 minutes to complete, next and last questions are
1. Can I get this to be done during night when pc not being used?
2. How can I see the reprt log of this, as I was not at pc when it completed.

Thats a good question. I ran chqdsk this morning and went to 'event viewer' and saw no log or entries regarding it or winlogon. I think you can have chkdsk output written to a logfile via the command prompt. Perhaps someone else can verify this.

Not really sure of this since I to am rather new to XP, but this a:m while reading about "Scheduled Tasks" I think one can use the "Schedule Wizard" to schedule a scan at the time more convient. Give it a look...I might do this myself in order to insure that periodic scan is done!
