Exclamation antivirus software compatabilities

hi everyone
i have windows xp and i am using norton anti virus software but would like to install avg as well, will they both work together or can i only use one of them.

I have heard of someone using that combo but its never a good idea. I ran two by mistake once and performed a premature reinstall. Better to run one and just do an online scan occasionally for backup.
