Universal Remote Control??

Does anyone know about any kind of software for controlling electronic devices as a remote controller but for notebooks?, I know they exist for Palms and Pocket PCs, but, what about laptops?, I have a Laptop with IrDa integrated and I wanted to know if I can use it as a remote control for my TV, VHS, DVD player, Stereo or some kind of things like that. Please if anyone know just tell me. Thanks.
