Outlook Express - relocate email messages
Can anyone give me an answer? I need to archive all my email messages from Outlook Express.
The emails have a .eml extension, but when I do a search for *.eml, no files show up during my search so that I can select them to copy or cut.
I am planning to re-format my hard drive and need to save my precious email messages. Saving, copying, relocating "files" are kindergarten stuff. Saving "email messages" to a location outside of Outlook Express (other than exporting to "Outlook" or "Microsoft Exchange") is rocket science (to me).
Why am I able to choose each one at a time and do a "save as". Then it turns into a .eml file that I can save in any location. Anybody understand this?

Hi, This is where OE stores all the folders
Store for Folders
In OE Tools/Options/Maintenance/ Store Folder
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{4C8F7453-AA91-4A47-9065-876A04FEE4CC}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Hope it helps

The link refers to creating a backup folder on your hard drive. Leaving the folder on your hard drive wouldn't be appropriate in your case (since you're going to wipe the hard drive). In general, what you want to do is use "Export" to copy the files to a folder and then copy the folder to a CD. Then, do the reverse (use "Import") once your new OS is in place.

I know this is old but theyre is no way to save them separatly as .eml? I've been searching for this for a long time. But maybe theyre is some .dbx extractor somewhere on the web.

Yes! I found one. Ok it's in German but it's simple to use.
First you unzip the proggie. You open the only execute that was in the zip.
The first lline is to point to your .dbx file.
The second one is where you want your e-mails to be extracted.
After selecting the first 2 options, you hit "Extrahieren" (wich probably means Extract).
Your done. Your e-mails are renamed with numbers, but it's the price to pay for being lazy and not opening them 1 by 1 and saving them.

Or you could ...
Open OE.
Open explorer and create an archive folder for your emails.
Drag and drop your emails from OE to the archive folder.
Backup the archive folder to CD or other removeable media.
