Can any one recommend good selectable image backup software?

My master Hard drive is a 20G.B Seagate. I have a 4 GB W.D removable drive.
15 GB in my master H.D. are all kind of video movies, big Internet cash and some non-important file folders. In case of crash I can permit to give up those 15 G.B
I want to make an image of the 5 important G.B in my H.D as a full restorable backup (including my Win98 operating system).
For this I need software that can do a selectable image of my master H.D from Seagate to the removable W.D drive.
Did any one can recommend a good image backup software, that allow me to select or sift folders for backup?

windows 98 has a backup utility, if it is not already installed, go to add/remove programs, add remove windows components, highlight system tools, select details, put a check in backup. i use drive image myself, but the program is not free. when installing the win98 backup you may need your 98 cd or format and recovery cd to copy files from during install.

Seems to me you're looking for disk imaging software, not backup software.

Take a look at Acronis Disk Editor. It may be what you're looking for. It says it can "back up and restore critical hard drive sectors."

You dont say if your OS is Wiin98SE - so if it's the earlier Win98, there may an issue with the size of a new HDD. Currently I can't find anything smaller than 40G - but Win98SE will cope OK with 120G but not 160G which are more common.

Furthermore I have no experience of "image" - and think that copying individual files is "probably" a better long-term bet, since you can repeat any folders, or files at will. As Oldtimer suggests, a new HDD is a better back-up than relying on a removed drive. However, I'd be inclined to run it in for a few weeks to be sure it's OK, giving it some time to warm up etc so you are reasonably confident its in 100% good condition.

My own back-ups are done to CD and then groups of them to DVD. Thus at least two optical and one HDD copy exists.
A long-term requirement is a fascinating discussion-point.....which few really consider....old text files for example are difficult to read once early Windows ( or GEM - remember that?) fonts are no longer available and I have experienced the issue of printers being changes to the point where (soo) it will be impossible to recover the hard-copy.
Regards.........let us know how it pans out.
