Norton Internet Security 2004

After a fresh format and install of XP I have installed Norton Internet Security 2004, it all looks ok until after a few minutes the NIS and Antivirus icons disappear from the system tray and if you click any of the links in the start menu nothing happens and i can't get into NIS (basically stops working). Anyone else come accross this problem? NIS 2003 is fine just this new 2004

If you can help I would be most grateful, the poeple on there expensive technical helpline are a load of puddings, think I might be sending it back very soon!!!
