Outlook Express Password

This issue only just started to occur, suggesting some Microsoft update may be the cause.

I used to have Outlook Express password protected so that; If I closed Outlook Express and or, shut down the PC you would need to enter a password to access e-mail.

The problem is, even if I go through the steps again to set up a password, it doesn't take effect. Each time I start windows and go to Outlook Express it opens without a password.

Anyone have a suggestion?

It is as it has been. Outlook Express had always been protected as well. But it only required a password if you re-started windows (as opposed to every time the mail client checked for mail).

Yes. WindowsXP is password protected. That feature continues to work. When I boot up, I am still prompted to enter a password. Once the password is entered, the boot up process continues. The problem is when I fire up Outlook Express. After a boot, I was always prompted for a password to open Outlook Express. I liked this feature. It provided some security that my mail was protected from someone snooping near my desk.

Please explain the steps you are using to Password Protect your OE.

Which version of OE do you use?

OE 6.00.2800.1123

I've tried File - manage identities - require password and;

Accounts - properties - servers - password.

I have tried the same as you on my system using the default user and I added a new user without any problems.

My hunch is the 'User File' is either corrupt or Read Only.

I am trying to find the actual file, please give me a while to investigate.

Thanks LC. I continue to investigate as well. I ran SFC to no avail.
