Problem with Nero 6 and dvd writer

Hi all! Great forum!!!

I've just installed a new LG dvd writer, which so far has worked great to write data dvds (I had a lot of media files, etc. to clear off the HD)... then I formatted both my HDs, reinstalled Windows, and everything is fine. I am using the new Nero 6 and I tried burning an audio cdr with it at 24x (max speed on my LG) but it didn't complete ("Cannot complete Disc-at-once mode" or something like that), and although I was able to play the cdr in my stereo, it was very fuzzy, and then stopped playing altogether.

Hints? Help? Any would be appreciated.

Oh, I am using WinXP Pro with 1.6ghz chip and 384 megs of ram.

Try turning your burn speed down to 16 or so.

Your burner cannot sustain 24x speed but your software probably can.

Hmmm.. It claims to be able to handle 24x for cdrs. 4x for dvdrs. If it can't handle it, why is it advertised that way?

Thank you for the reply!

Well I tried it at 16x and it made one disc perfectly, and the second disc I tried failed halfway through - same error: "Could not close Disc-at-once" or whatever it is...

I don't understand, my system should be more than capable of handling a 16x burn. Any other ideas?

One thing I did not do with this new burner is install the software/drivers that came with it, but I didn't need to. It was recognized by XP right away, and I used it with Nero immediately. One check of Device Manager tells me it is functioning, and as I said before, I have made flawless dvdrs so far. But the cdrs remain a problem, with 2 out of 3 tries as coasters...
