Word 2000/xp crashing on opening

I have a laptop with win XP Home (SP1) and Office 2000 recently installed. On opening Word and typing just a few characters, I get a "windows has caused a serious error" message . (I can' t remember the exact wording , but its the one which tries to send a report to Microsoft). I've tried doing a repair on office, re-installing office, and even installing Word Xp instead of 2000, but it still keeps doing it, so possibly its windows rather then word. However, if I logoff and logon as the other user on this pc, the problem doesn't occur. So something to do with profiles? I've tried replacing the normal.dot file, but no joy. Any other suggestion?

this is not a solution but a work around,, I would not waste time to fix it,, I would create another admin account and transfer my document to the new account and remove the one with crashibg issue (just a thought)
