Outlook Express won't let me switch identities

Hello.
I am using Windows XP Home.

I have two email addresses -
<MyRealName>@e7even
and
<MyDaftInternetName>@e7even

OE Help file tells me how to change identities but when I try to...

It asks if I want to keep my connection for the next identity - I click Yes (clicking No just quits OE then when I restart it I'm still on the same name anyway).
So, after I click Yes, it shuts down its window but when it restarts it, I'm on the same name, regardless of which one I was on and which other I selected.

Both address are receiving the correct mail, so that's working OK.

At the moment, the only way that I can switch is:
If I'm in eg. <MyRealName>, I go into OE's Manage Identities settings and tell OE that next time I use the program I want it to start with <MyDaftInternetName>, then save the setting and restart the program, then do it the other way around next time.

have you tried to change the default address first ? usually you could change the default address from one email to another (I know that is not the answer but does it work? )

If you mean,
can I go from my main one to my other one ie. half a result, then No.

In fact, since yesterday, I can't switch identities no matter what I do, even that long way that I was using.

I looked at a book:
Outlook For Dummies.
The 'solution' in there was the same as the OE Help file ie. not a solution.

Hi garethamiga,

Thanks to your post about finding a way to switch identities, my comcast guy and I seem to have found a workaround.

I used your original "fix", from the above posting and modified it a bit.

So far, I am able now to switch identities, although it's a long way around.

• From my File menu, I go to "Identities", and into the "Manage Identities" settings...
• where OE asks which identity to use the next time I start the program I select the identity I'm trying to get to.
• Then, I hit "close"

Then

• I go back to my file menu and choose "switch identities",
• then select the desired identity from the list,
• and hit OK

It is now switching.
I did not have to shut down the application in order to activate this.

Each time I want to switch identities, I must go through this entire procedure. But, at least now I can use this feature. Thanks for your original posting.
