AIM and MSN messengers signing on and off constantly.

When my friend is idle his MSN constantly signs on and off. How can he fix this? It's driving me mad with all the bing bing bing every 2 minutes. And for AIM. When I am chatting with her she is cut off a random interval of minutes. Can someone give me some tips on how to fix this. (not to be rude but please don't post AIM or MSN flames, I just need help) TIA

What is your internet connection? Aol? Do you have a firewall and a router? Are you on a network? Give us something to work with buddy. Thanks.
