XP compatibility issue with NERO 5.5?

Hello all..recently purchased a new PC, which came with Windows XP operating system. All programs I have installed work fine with XP, EXCEPT for NERO BURNING 5.5. It installs with no problems, but each time my PC boots up, and the INCD splash screen appears on my desktop, my PC crashes into a blue screen. This blue screen informs me that a recent software installation, may be causing the problem, and to remove any recently installed software. I then have to boot up using "SAFE" mode, as that is the only way I can remove the offending program. After uninstalling NERO 5.5, my PC returns to normal operation, so NERO 5.5 is the obvious culprit. Phoned my local PC shop, who informed me that NERO is conflicting with the burning software within XP, but they could offer me NO solution to the problem. So if anyone else out there has come across this problem, and can offer me advice on how to solve it, I would be grateful. Many thanx in advance for any advice given.

Do you have any other burning programs installed like Easy cd Creator? ECDC and Nero will not live together. I see where nero 6 is out now. A simple update will probably cure your problem and there may be a patch at the website.
You can remove xp's ability to burn cds but it does involve risk. And there is no quarantees Nero will work.

Cheers for the prompt reply M4, I have no other burning software installed in my system, apart from Media Players ability to burn cd`s, and it looks as if it`s Media Players burning option that`s causing this conflict. Cheers for the link you provided to disable XP`s burning capabilities, but as you said "it does involve risks" and, being new to the world of PC`s, I don`t wanna add to this problem I`m having just now, as I probably would`nt be able to right any wrongs...lol. Thanx again, and any other solutions that would maybe help me out would be appreciated.

Did you install the 5.5 update? I see no other recourse but to scrap Nero otherwise. Software clashes happen. I use Easy Cd Creator 6 with no problems. I do not have much patience for troublesome software. Someone may see your post and supply an easy fix for you. Here is the update and more.

I have 5.5 in one puter and 6.0 in another and they both work, so try this. Go to reg edit and then search for nero first and delete all reg keys for nero(after you uninstal nero). Then search for any AHEAD keys and delete them also. This will clear your registry of all ahead nero values and possibably get rid of conflicting reg keys. Then reinstal,then reboot,then go to nero website and download updates and reboot. That worked for me.
I know a lot of people that are running nero on xp with no problems at all. Good Luck. jimdaddy
