Cannot perform searches from Address Bar

In the past I was always able to perform searches from my Address bar in IE 6.0. However, I recently installed the Google Tool bar, and from that point on, it has not worked. For example, now when I type "amazon" in the tool bar, I get a Page Cannot Be Displayed message and the address shown in the toolbar is "http://?%20amazon"
I uninstalled the Google bar and it hasn't made a difference. Under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced I have picked "just display the results in the main window" since that is how it worked in the past. I have also gone to the "customize" area of the search bar and checked that autosearch settings look correct, and they seem too.
Help! This is driving me crazy. I guess I'm lazy because I pretty much always do my searches this way. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!
